Automatic sync lifecycle stages between certain records|HubSpot

HubSpot lets you sync the lifecycle stages of an associated object automatically.

  • A company's lifecycle stage can automatically update an associated contact's lifecycle stages.
  • A deal's pipeline stage can automatically update its associated company and contact's lifecycle stages.

Companies and their associated contact records 

If the company lifecycle stage sync setting is enabled, any changes to the Lifecycle Stage value of a company record will be implemented to all associated contact records.

To manage the lifecycle stage sync setting for companies and contacts:

  • Click the settings icon   from the main navigation bar of your HubSpot account.
  • Go to CRM > Contacts & companies from the left sidebar menu. 
  • Click the tab Companies.
  • Click the toggle Lifecycle stage sync to switch on or off. 
  • However, this setting won't set the lifecycle stage of a contact backward.

      Example: 
      • There are two contacts associated with a company; one's lifecycle stage is Subscriber, and the other one's is Opportunity, and the company's lifecycle stage is Lead. If the lifecycle stage is synced, then only the Subscriber will be updated to a Lead. Contact with Opportunity lifecycle stage won't change back to Lead.
      • If the company's lifecycle stage is  Customer, then both contacts will be updated to the Customer lifecycle stage.

    Deals and their associated contacts and companies

    If the deals lifecycle stage sync setting enabled, the lifecycle stages of associated contacts and companies will change when a deal is created or closed as won.

    • When a deal is created, the lifecycle stage of associated contacts and companies will be updated to Opportunity.
    • When a deal is won, the lifecycle stage of associated contacts and companies will be updated to the Customer.

    To manage the lifecycle stage sync setting for deals:

    • Click the settings icon from the main navigation bar of your HubSpot account.
    • Go to CRM > Deals from the left sidebar menu. 
    • Click the toggle Sync lifecycle stages to associated contacts and companies to switch on or off.
    • However, this setting won't set the lifecycle stage of contacts backward. 

      For example:

      • If the contact's lifecycle stage is Customer, and a deal is created and associated with that contact, the contact's lifecycle stage will not change to Opportunity.
      • If the contact's lifecycle stage is Lead, and a deal is created and associated with it, the contact's lifecycle stage will become Opportunity.
