How to upload an images on WordPress

This Internal KB outlines the SOP to upload images over WordPress

Step 1 - Save the Image with a proper name

  • Before you upload an image on WordPress, make sure you name the image properly. The image name you will add should be relevant to the picture that it depicts. Say if the image is about the WordPress rank math plugin, and you are naming it as a WordPress plugin, then it's wrong. The name of the image should indicate what exactly the image is about.
  • For example, you have to upload the image of the webdew logo, so you will name the image as
    webdew-logo” or “logo-of-webdew
"Note- Make sure you add "-" Hyphen between the words.

Image Format-

  • "Best to keep webp. But in the case of logos, we can go with SVG with a size of less than 1 MB
  • For blogs, please use SVG images as featured and can use webp for other website images."

Step-2 Add image to the blog content

  • If you want to add an image in between the content, then click on the "+" Icon. https://prnt.sc/0LveCPPmVzbr
  • Click on the image- https://prnt.sc/Jx_GPQVjEV4n
  • You will see something like this- https://prnt.sc/-mBlkeFMW2XQ
  • Now, you either upload a new image or use the existing one in the library.
  • If you want to upload a new image, click Upload. Select the image you want to use. Click on open.
  • You will see that the image is added where you want.
  • Now, if you want to choose the already existing image in the gallery, click on media library- https://prnt.sc/PtY2jkjf7Ug4
  • Here, you will see all the images that are being used on the website on one page or the other.
  • Here, you can scroll down and select the image you want, or you can search the image with the name. https://prnt.sc/zxqs-PTUkv0W

Step-3 Update Image parameters

  • Once the image is selected, It's time to update its parameters.
  • For example, you have selected this image- https://prnt.sc/hr6_snTqRHnS
  • You will see that the attachment details box is shown on the right side of the page.
  • Now, you need to update the image parameters like- Alt text, title, description, and caption.
  • Note- If you save the image with the proper name, then the title will be fetched automatically.
  • Like in the image shared, I have named the image as svg-logo, so the details are shown automatically in the title.
    https://prnt.sc/HV8fv_UqJobm
  • Alt text will be the same as your image name, like- webdew-logo.
  • In the caption and description- you add additional information to an image or better describe what is happening in the photo.
  • In the category, you can add the property according to the blogs; for example, in the screenshot, the image is of a video production company logo. So, I have added the video category and selected the same. So, in the same way, you can do it for others.
  • Once all these things are updated, click on the Select button.
  • Images will be added at the place where you want. Now, you can align the image position according to your requirements.

NOTE- The naming of the featured image also follows the same process.
